Stewardship in Orono

How can you be a good Steward for our Orono Community?

1) Attend public meetings for City Council, the Planning Commission, or the Park Commission. Sign up for meeting notices here: https://www.ci.orono.mn.us/list.aspx

2) Watch video of past meetings here:

3) If you have an Orono Park in your neighborhood, find out who your Park Commissioners are here and stay in contact with them about updates and changes to your public park. For a current list, contact Orono Park Commissioner Chair Brian Roath

4) Vote for City Council members that have your public interests at heart - not special interests. Two City Council seats are up for election this November.

5) Join our community on Facebook to comment about issues related to Orono’s public spaces and our property rights https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofOrono.org

6) Plant more trees and native species in your yard and community.

7) Reduce your lawn size and chemical use to maintain this reductive monoculture.

8) Learn what plants and species live in your neighborhood here: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/gardens/nativeplants/index.html and here: https://www.minnesotawildflowers.info/

9) Recycle, buy local and learn about clean water initiatives and conservation objectives in your community.

10) Be thankful for Orono vast natural resources - let’s protect them for the future!
